James Jones
James Jones is a profile in determination and an American success story. From spending parts of his childhood homeless to playing in the NFL, James has seen the highs and lows of life first hand and has never forgotten where he came from. All of his experiences have helped become a play-making threat on the field and one of the Packers most community-minded player off the field.
Now in his third season with the Green Bay Packers, Jones continues to be an integral part of the high-octane Packer offense that placed 3rd in the entire NFL during the 2009 season in scoring. James finished tied for 2nd on the team with 5 receiving touchdowns and his 74 yard reception in week 9 was the Packers longest play from scrimmage in 2009. Jones was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft in 2007 out of San Jose State. As a rookie, James made a big impact with his new team. He caught 47 passes for over 600 yards and became a key part of the Packers explosive offense. Jones rookie season was the best by a Packers receiver since Sterling Sharpe in 1988. James played in all 16 regular season games for the Packers in '07, starting 9 of them. Though he battled serious injuries in 2008, James played in 10 games and had an impressive 132 yards receiving against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
James starred at San Jose State where he is ranked third all-time in career receptions. His 70 catches and 10 Touch Downs in 2006 also rank him high on school's single-season record list. Born in San Jose, James had to overcome many obstacles growing up, as he and his mother moved around from different homeless shelters. Due to his tough upbringing James likes to give back to the community. In college he was a regular at campus blood drives and has been a summertime volunteer coach for kids at football camps in Seattle, Portland and St. Mary's, California. Throughout Wisconsin James has participated in numerous charity events including lending his help to the Blood Center of Wisconsin, United Way, Hunger Task Force and more.
