Packers WR Randall Cobb Could Miss Start of Training Camp with Ankle Injury

June 25th, 2018

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb is currently dealing with an ankle injury which could see him miss the start of training camp, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal reports.

On Sunday, Cobb was spotted at an airport wearing a walking boot on his right ankle. He did not specify when and how he suffered the injury or whether he underwent surgery.
Cobb showed no visible signs of the injury during the team’s offseason workouts, which he was present for throughout the spring. He missed time during OTAs, but that was for a personal matter.

A source told Cohen that the Packers won’t rush Cobb back and will ease him back onto the field when training camp begins next month. Although, the Packers are confident that Cobb will be ready in time for their season opener against the Chicago Bears.

The 27-year-old Cobb is coming off another disappointing year in 2017. He had just 66 catches for 653 yards and four touchdowns despite playing 15 games. There was some speculation that he could get cut this offseason after back-to-back down years — he had 60 catches for 610 yards and four TDs in 2016 — but Green Bay decided to release fellow receiver Jordy Nelson instead.

With the departure of Nelson, Cobb will now be the most senior player on the Packers’ wide receiving corps that will also add three rookies. Cobb will also be the expected to become the No. 2 option for quarterback Aaron Rodgers behind Davante Adams this season, so he will have to prepare for a bounce-back season.
