Milwaukee Bucks co-owners Marc Lasry and Jamie Dinan and Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy will headline a May 10 Business of Sports event being put on by the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Lasry, Dinan and Murphy will be joined on a panel by Milwaukee Brewers chief operating officer Rick Schlesinger, making it the first time in recent memory that the top executives of the three major Wisconsin sports teams will be on stage together. The executives will talk about the challenges of running a professional sports team, business initiatives they are working on and the steps each is taking to make their teams a success both on and off the field.

Lasry and Dinan were joined by fellow New York City hedge fund executive Wes Edens in purchasing the Bucks in 2014 for $550 million. The new owners are overhauling the team both on and off the court, while at the same time pushing ahead a plan to build a $500 million arena in downtown Milwaukee, with an adjoining $500 million in ancillary development.

The event will include a second panel of Milwaukee-area sports marketing executives and representatives from high-profile companies, such as MillerCoors LLC, which partner with athletes and professional sports leagues on sponsorships.

“This is a unique chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at how a professional sports team runs as a business,” said Mark Kass, Milwaukee Business Journal editor-in-chief. “Everyone likes to watch the teams play on the field, but doesn’t really know what goes on in the front office to make sure each organization is a financial success.”

The event will be moderated by Abraham Madkour, executive editor of the SportsBusiness Journal, a sister publication of the Milwaukee Business Journal.

“Abe brings a national perspective in terms of the trends in sports marketing,” Kass said. “He has a great handle on who is doing what in all sports throughout the country and what works in branding, sponsorship and advertising.”

The Business of Sports event will be held at The Pfister Hotel, starting at 7 a.m. for networking, with the event starting at 7:30 a.m. It will be completed by 11 a.m. For more details and to register for the event, click here.
